Partnerships

Why participate?

The aim of UrbanLex is to serve as a tool to fill the knowledge gap that has formed around urban legislation and serve as a research tool for urban stakeholders at every level. We aim to cover the large majority of UN member states for themes of strategic interest and grow the database by implementing a population through regional hubs strategy. Partnerships with universities and research institutes will serve as the primary means to grow the database on an international scale and develop comparative research for normative and applied purposes. UrbanLex’s objective is to achieve the enhancement of the legal framework in urban areas by developing a research tool featuring urban legislation from all of the UN member states. UrbanLex serves to-

  • Support the development of adequate urban legislation as a contribution to sustainable urban development;
  • Support the capacity of national, sub-national authorities and other Habitat Agenda partners in urban legislation;
  • Develop new knowledge, documenting existing good practices, identifying, piloting and adapting tools and implementing operational projects in relevant thematic areas;
  • Empower the citizens, giving them access to legislative materials.
